Orthotics

What are orthotics?

Custom-made orthotics are shoe inserts that are individually designed for your feet. An in-office impression of your feet is taken with precision by our trained experts in under 5 minutes and then sent to a lab where your custom device is fabricated.  These devices help:

  • Properly align and support your feet, ankles and the rest of your body
  • Improve the overall function of your feet and ankles
  • Prevent, accommodate, or correct feet deformities

Orthotics may help prevent or treat several foot abnormalities without the need for further treatment or surgery.

Do I require orthotics?

Custom-made orthotics might benefit you if have the following foot conditions:

  • Plantar fasciitis/heel pain
  • Flat feet
  • Bunions
  • A rigid, high foot arch
  • Calluses or corns
  • A stiff big toe
  • Claw toe or hammer toe
  • Limb length deformity
  • Chronic foot, heel, knee or back pain
  • Diabetes-related foot problems

Orthotics may be the first line of defense when you have foot or ankle problems, as these devices are considered a simple, cost-effective, and noninvasive solution.

What are the different types of orthotics?

A wide variety of orthotics are available to choose from, such as:

Rigid orthotics

Rigid orthotics control foot motion and are often used with dress shoes or walking shoes. They are made of a firm material, such as carbon fiber or plastic, and are created from a mold your specialist takes of your feet. Rigid orthotics help reduce or eliminate aches, strains, and pains in your lower back, thighs, and legs.

Soft orthotics

Soft orthotics help increase balance, absorb shock, and take pressure off sore or uncomfortable areas of your feet. These orthotics are made of soft, cushioned materials and worn against the soles of your feet. Soft orthotics are often effective for patients with deformed feet, arthritis, and diabetes.

Semi-rigid orthotics

Semi-rigid orthotics provide balance during sports participation, walking, and other physical activities, and are made of soft materials reinforced with more rigid substances. These orthotics are useful for treating flatfoot and other foot disorders in children, and reducing pain in athletes during sports training.
