They first recommend noninvasive, regenerative therapies to address your injury, but some conditions may require surgery, such as:

  • Hammer toe
  • Heel spurs
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Toenail infections or ingrown toenails
  • Ulcers and infections related to diabetes
  • Cancer or non-cancerous tumors
  • Tendon damage
  • Broken bones, fractures, or bone deformities

The podiatrists at the Center for Podiatric Medicine undergo continuous education, allowing the practice to offer the latest evidence-based treatments available to address these common concerns.

Which procedure might I need?

At the Center for Podiatric Medicine, your podiatrist may recommend one of the following treatments for foot or ankle problems:

Regenerative medicine

Regenerative medicine involves injections or stem cell grafts that enhance your body’s natural healing ability. Examples include PRP injections, amniotic membrane injections or grafts, and EPAT shockwave treatment.

Minimally invasive surgeries

Minimally invasive foot or ankle surgeries may consist of minor surgery requiring local anesthesia. Examples include wart or mole removal, soft tissue mass or cyst removal, ingrown toenail removal, and other surgeries that don’t require you to be put under general anesthesia.

Other foot and ankle surgeries

Some foot and ankle surgeries are more extensive. For these surgeries, your podiatrist may recommend you receive light sedation or general anesthesia before the procedure. Examples include fractures or dislocations, bunions, hammertoes, tendon repair, flat foot reconstruction, joint clean-up or replacement, removal of bone spurs and excision of soft tissue and bone masses.

What should I expect during surgery?

Your doctor lets you know what you can expect during foot or ankle surgery. The type of treatment and level of sedation depends on the severity of the injury. In most cases though, you can go home the day of your procedure.
