> SPORTS MEDICINE & ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE

Balance begins with the position of the foot on the ground. Any abnormal motion will affect functional biomechanics, leading to less than optimum performance for you as an athlete. More importantly, abnormal motion may lead to injury.

Foot Gear: what shoe is right for you?

As an athlete you need expert advice on shoes. Often you have gone to a specialty shoe store and the sales person has used medical terminology to describe your foot. You think, “Wow, they know what they’re talking about”. They may even put you on a treadmill and show you the brief video. Let’s be honest, they are in the business of selling shoes.

We do not sell shoes. We offer real expert, medical advice on the proper shoe type for your foot. We will show you how to be an educated consumer when it comes to shoegear and accessories. Manufacturers are constantly evolving and marketing to get your business. Let's not focus on their business, but rather your foot health. Shoegear choice can be the difference between success and failure.

Orthotics

Why do most professional athletes wear orthotics?

Simple… because they work.

But how? Placing the base of support (your foot) in an optimum position allows for transfer of pressure without loss of function. This reduction in abnormal force translation leads to improved balance and muscle function.

A properly designed orthotic takes into account the foot and its relationship to the rest of the body.

We use both state of the art computer analysis, sometimes video gait analysis, and ultimately make a true 3-dimensional mold of your foot.

Ankle Braces

Image of a Velocity ankle braceWhat about ankle support braces? When a brace is properly fitted, it allows both support for an injury and stability for the joints. A properly fitted brace enhances function by taking the pressure away from the injured joint(s) and soft tissues.

We carefully select our braces from top of the line manufacturers. You will find the braces we choose are also used by professional athletes around the world.

When needed we will custom fabricate a brace specifically for you. We have partnered with a lab that can fabricate our braces from the best materials. Each brace engineered for your condition, with your exact mold. These are definitely not “over the counter” braces.

Orthotics and Braces are covered by most insurance plans when we prescribe them for your condition.

Injury Prevention and Maintenance

We believe in a multidisciplinary team approach for our athletes. We team with industry leaders to ensure optimum outcomes. Our friendly referral partners, physical therapy groups and MRI specialists work with Chicago’s professional sports teams, and we look forward to working with you.

It is our goal to get you back to health quickly and with confidence. We want all of our patients to be well educated and ultimately learn to maintain their health. We are educators as well as physicians.
